This was a great conversation...
I really like what Butch had to say about seeking out a leader first, the artist second when it comes to leading the arts in churches. So often, churches are planted or launched and there are two people there to start: the senior pastor and the worship leader.
The Senior Pastor is usually there for the most obvious reasons, and the worship leader is there because of their artistic talent, their musical prowess, their stage presence, or because that's the first person the senior pastor could think of how plays and sings.
After a while that person ends up with the charge to lead the arts, even thogh they may actually be an artist that needs to be led by a great leader.

BTW: Just found out my Innovate 2007 dreams were dashed in favor of our church needing some representation at FlavaFest. ( http://www.flavoralliance.com ) Maybe if I can somehow show you all do a little hip hop over there in Indiana, I can come next year.
